Safe Operation Procedures
Follow these key procedures to ensure safe and effective operation of rebar cutters. Always refer to the manufacturer's instructions for specific guidance related to your equipment model.
Pre-Operation Safety
- Ensure work area is clean and free of trip hazards
- Verify adequate lighting in the cutting area
- Keep bystanders at a safe distance from operations
- Check that all required PPE is available and in use
- Ensure proper footing and stable position before cutting
- Verify rebar is properly secured before cutting
- Know the location of emergency shut-off or power source
Proper Cutting Technique
- Position cutter at 90° angle to the rebar
- Ensure rebar is fully seated in cutting channel
- Keep both hands on tool handles during operation
- Apply steady, even pressure - do not force the cut
- Avoid twisting the cutter during operation
- Allow motor to reach full speed before cutting
- Keep fingers and hands away from cutting area
- Be prepared for movement of rebar after cutting
Electric/Battery Safety
- Inspect power cords before connecting to power
- Use GFCI protection for all electric tools
- Keep cords away from cutting area and sharp edges
- Never carry tool by the cord or yank to disconnect
- Disconnect power when changing blades or servicing
- Protect batteries from extreme heat and impact
- Use only manufacturer-recommended chargers
- Store batteries in dry, cool location when not in use
After-Use Care
- Power off and disconnect from power source
- Clean debris from cutting head and blades
- Apply light lubricant to moving parts if recommended
- Inspect for any damage that occurred during use
- Store in clean, dry location away from moisture
- Report any issues to supervisor immediately
- Document usage and any maintenance needs
- Ensure batteries are charged for next use
